Volunteers are vital to Life Span's 24-hour
crisis line service. They provide around-the-clock supportive listening, option
exploring and referrals to victims of domestic violence. They are often the
first contact a caller has with Life Span. We provide 40 hours of training to
volunteers who can answer the crisis line from their homes. Life Span has a
full range of domestic violence services for immigrant women and non-English
speaking clients, particularly Spanish and Polish speakers. We have a
continuing need for bilingual volunteers who are available for the crisis line
and for occasionally translating for clients.

Community Education is provided by
members of our staff, board, and volunteers. They speak before civic groups,
businesses, religious institutions, and schools. We provide this service to
inform the public about the extent and character of domestic violence in their
communities and to reduce the community's acceptance and tolerance of this
problem. Life Span's Teen Dating Violence Prevention program is recognized for
its excellence by both school administrators and students. Corporations such as
Motorola have invited Life Span to speak to employees about domestic violence
in the workplace.
